Corn Flower

I originally saw this flower in a garden when I was painting for Bloomin Artists in Hampton earlier this summer, then I saw it again at Kingsbrae Gardens in St. Andrews when I visited there this summer I was drawn to this flower right away, the texture and vibrant color, they stand about 4 feet high and are very dominant. I started with an under painting done in watercolor and then layered soft pastel.

  1. Thank you jan.
Thank you Sandeep, it is very interesting, I love the texture with the pastel (it is hard to see in a picture) The paper I used for this one was 140lb Smooth, I find pastel works well with watercolor paper, it holds more pastel with the CP or Rough, but if you use a fixative you can get a few more layers.

  2. Hi Krista
What a lovely colorful flower! Very nicely done! Watercolor plus soft pastels is an interesting combination. Was the paper Smooth or Not / Rough…wanted to know how you find the pastels working on watercolor paper. 🙂

  3. You did a great job. Love the bright yellow. What an interesting looking flower! Sounds like it's spectacular in person. I'm going to have to Google it.
