Poppies and Lupines oil painting – Day 8 of the 30 day daily painting challenge

“Poppies and Lupines” is my painting for day 8 of the challenge. I am starting the second week off with one that is a bit bigger ( 8×8″ ) I really like the looseness of this. Yesterday’s painting was a bit more on the detailed side and that’s OK I liked it as well.

White Trillium oil painting – Day 7 of the 30 day daily painting challenge

Wow hard to believe we are a week into the challenge already. For day 7 I have painted a white Trillium, I love the thick impasto that I have added to this little painting.

There is nothing like going for a walk in the woods early spring and having the floor of the forest carpeted with these, it is breathtaking. Thanks for stopping in I hope you enjoy this little piece of spring :).

Okay, I am caught up lol :). This is what I am talking about when I say loose. I really enjoyed painting this even though I find yellow flowers harder to paint than other colors. What color do you have the hardest time with? Let me know :). So glad I decided to do the challenge again!

Pink Coneflowers Day 2 in the 30 paintings in 30 days Challenge

Strangely this painting does not seem loose to me. Maybe it is just not as loose as I want or maybe I need to practice economy of brush strokes instead. I am not sure. I really love the flower on the back left-hand side (it is loose and painted with fewer strokes) and the thick juicy paint makes me happy lol. See what did I tell you, I am already learning 🙂 That is the best part of these challenges.

30 paintings in 30 days February 2018 Challenge

It is that time again 🙂 This year it is starting on Feb first instead of the usual January. It is a great way to start the year off right and I am excited to do it. If you would like to give it a try go to Leslie Saeta’s site here: https://www.saetastudio.com/30-in-30.html

This year I am going to focus on trying to paint as loose as I can with nice thick juicy paint (not an easy feat for me) and I am going to post them no matter what lol. You learn so much from painting small paintings every day and you make lots of mistakes which actually leads to even more learning (love it!). So here we go, this is day one from yesterday! Let me know what you think. #30paintingsin30days

A Canada Goose is on my Easel Update #2

Canada Goose painting update 2 oil by Krista Hasson

Canada Goose update 2. Wow! It has been quite awhile since I worked on this painting of the Canada Goose (since April actually). Now that I have some time again I will try to finish it up quickly. It is funny how when you put something away and then you look at it, it looks different than you remember. I decided I wanted the background to be darker so I adjusted that and I am going to add some lighter reeds and water reflections still. The last thing I will do is the head and beak. So stay tuned for the next update … it should be the last 🙂

You can see my other posts for the Canada Goose by clicking the following links – Update 1 and the initial Block in

I hope you are enjoying the updates on my progress. Thank you for stopping in, I am grateful for your support.  Have an awesome weekend!

Border Collies Finished – commission Oil WIP

Border Collies finished commission WIP oil painting by Krista Hasson

Border Collies commission is finished! It has been a crazy busy start to the new year I have never painted or had so many deadlines like I have this year (that is a good thing). I am so happy to finally have had the time to finish up this commission of these two wonderful collies. I stopped taking commissions a while ago but I am such and animal lover I cannot resist or turn down dogs :). I loved painting them and I hope the owner is thrilled when she sees it in real life.

Now I have to start painting for the upcoming studio tour I am participating in soon. The studio tour is June 10th and 11th,  you can go to our Kings County Studio Tour page to find out more details. Cheers!

My Border Collies on the Beach Oil commission is moving along nicely, I have been working all over to bring the painting together. I worked on the right-hand dog (Noah) a lot this morning, he is starting to come to life. Still quite a ways to go, but I am very happy with the progress. Sweet Nelly will be next then it will have to dry before I can add more. It is painful watching paint dry lol. Just joking I am also working on paintings for my upcoming solo show in the spring.

Thank you for stopping in have an awesome weekend!

Update 2 – Border Collies

I have a lot more paint on the dogs, they are still very rough. I worked more on the beach and water, it is hard to see there is some glare from the wet paint. Started adding in more of the seaweed, this will change some, so far placing and rearranging to see what I like. I wish oil paint dried faster lol, I am so loving painting Nelly and Noah, they are such beautiful dogs! To see the post before this on Nelly and Noah click here. Stay tuned I will update later when I can add more paint!

12x24" Pears in a box. Week one - Cliff Turner's Oil Still Life Class

12×24″ Pears in a box. Week one – Cliff Turner’s Oil Still Life Class work in progress

I started the Oil Still Life Class with Cliff Turner, I am so excited. Cliff decided to give us one more week to finish our landscape painting (next week). I will post the finished landscape next week :). I have painted many pears in watercolor over the years. I am finding it very exciting to be painting this in a traditional oil technique. We started by toning our canvas and then drawing the set up. Then we started to put in the darks and lift out the lights. So not the way I paint with oil, but I am enjoying it. I love to learn new techniques!! I will update in 2 weeks with progress on the pears. Stay tuned for the finished landscape next week. Fun Stuff 🙂

Thank you for stopping by. Comments are always welcomed and appreciated. Have an awesome night!

Impressionistic Oil Paintings with Glowing Color - Learning New Techniques

As an artist I love to try new materials and new techniques, even if I don’t end up using them I still learn. I love seeing how other artists that inspire me paint and create. I love Dreama Tolle-Perry’s Impressionistic Oil Paintings ( #lovedreampaint ). I always thought that some day I would like to take a workshop from her but they always sold out quickly. She recently started teaching courses online. I could not resist, I signed up in Sept 2016. I enjoyed her format and all the love and effort that clearly went into her classes. You can tell it gives her joy to paint and she loves passing that along through her teaching and writing. Her class was worth every penny 🙂 Below are the paintings I created in her workshop. Border Collies on the Beach – Oil painting Commission Started

Border Collies - initial drawing

I just started this 15×30″ oil commission of 2 Border Collies’ Nelly and Noah. As you know I absolutely love dogs (of any kind) or any animals :). The original picture was Noah (on the right) on the beach. I used reference pictures and videos to get the size of Nelly compared to Noah and placed her on the beach beside her brother. In the bottom picture I am just starting to block in the main aspects of the painting. I will post updates as I go. I will also be posting the step by step on my Facebook Page . As an Artist you should never stop learning

I started taking a workshop on traditional methods of oil painting. The instructor, Cliff Turner is an excellent artist, he is also a great teacher with a good sense of humor (very important). I have painted with oils for some time now but I have never painted using the traditional methods. We started with an under-painting of the sky in week one. Week 2 we did the under-painting for the buildings. The method is very interesting I love the adding and subtracting of the paint to build up mass and form. I have posted pictures of week 1 and 2 below. I will post the other weeks as they happen. Have a great night!

I love dogs! Oil and Watercolor Pug Paintings

Pug oil painting commission

This little pug is Ozzie – oil  8×10″. He was a Christmas commission that I did for a wonderful client, she had it painted for her husband. This is actually the third pug I have painted for her, the first two were her daughter’s dogs. I am such an animal lover and always had pets growing up just about every type lol. I have a dog and a cat right now, but dogs are my favorite and I love painting them! The early pug paintings are in watercolor, you can see them below.

30 small daily oil paintings in 30 days Starting Sept. 1st

30 small daily oil paintings

All setup and ready to go for day one of 30 daily oil paintings in 30 days! Starts Tomorrow.

I am doing 30 small daily oil paintings in 30 days again!  Starting Sept. 1st, 2016. I had so much fun doing the last challenge. I was so excited when I heard Leslie Saeta was doing the 30 in 30 challenge again. I recommend anyone who paints should do this challenge. I learned so much the first time and it gives you a chance to explore other subject matter without making a huge commitment.

I am going to try to stick to a theme for this one. I was out this morning snipping a beautiful little pink coneflower (see picture above. Harbour Bridge oil Painting – Krista Hasson. This bridge is in Saint John NB. It is 12 x 16 inches, maybe a study for a larger painting.  I enjoyed painting the train so much I thought I would do another painting of our wonderful city. As a result, I think I am going to start a series of Saint John paintings.  My camera usually goes everywhere I do so I am always taking pictures. I have tons from all over the city, I must start sorting them so I can plan my next paintings. You can see more of my oil paintings here. Thank you for looking.
